Refinishing Floors

Completed Floors

The Move-in (where did this junk come from?)

The final product after unpacking (pictures not yet available)..... to be continued

Refinishing floors

We sanded to the original wood (oak plank) using a rented sander from Home Depot.

Glue and other gunk from around baseboards was scraped from the floor surface prior to sanding.

Glue from carpet padding had to be removed to prevent gumming up sanding paper.

Carpet tack boards were removed and floors sanded.  The finish was completely gone from a huge section near the front entry.  The original wood had darkened from oils and dirt.

Shop Vac was used to remove sanding dust.

We eventually completely removed original finish which was brown and flat, having no shine.

John changes out sandpaper to a newer piece with courser grit.

  Now we are getting somewhere.

A small belt sander was used along edges where larger sander could not be used.  Sanding with the grain as much as possible to prevent weird swirls and scratches across the grain.

Hearing and breathing protection was essential.
